We’ve spent this past week trekking along the roads of my childhood. Visiting my hometown is always emotionally and physically exhausting – there never seems to be enough time to spend with the people here that I love. Quick visits and big hugs suffice, yet I long for hours and hours of deep conversations and laughter as we reminisce on days gone by. Driving the roads where I spent the first twenty-two years of my life brings memories with every turn. It’s always strange being back here where this world continues forward without me in it. That sounds ridiculously self-centered, I know, but it really is hard to wrap my mind around the fact that my old life is pretty darn different than my current one and both manage to move forward in parallel.
After a very full week, we have escaped to the coast for a few days. We made it just in time for a walk on the beach at sunset. The kiddos ran in the sand, jumped in the water, gathered seashells and managed to cover themselves in sticky, wet sand. I exhaled and whispered prayers of gratitude as I watched my loves dance along the water’s edge.
I have been studying the book of Numbers and read The Priestly Blessing in Numbers 6 yesterday with fresh eyes. Thankful for a God who blesses so abundantly.
“The Lord bless you and keep you;
the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you;
the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.”
{Numbers 6:24-26}
May your Thursday be blessed, friends!
