From mid-May to mid-June, FOUR of our five kiddos’ have birthdays. It was a month of celebration at our house. Balloons were permanent decor and leftover cake could be found on the counter on any given day.
We not only celebrated a lot of birthdays, but they were big ones: the boys turned TEN (double-digits … I can’t even believe it…) and my newborn baby turned ONE! I have no idea how an entire year passed in the actual blink of an eye. Motherhood is a constant dance of embracing the beauty and joy and discoveries of each new season while simultaneously grieving the (too fast) passage of time. As they say, babies don’t keep.
I’ve once again neglected this blog because I’ve simply tried to keep up with our crazy daily lives. Quarantine hasn’t slowed life down for us — right after we wrapped virtual school for the year, we celebrated our newly 6, 10, and 1 year olds all the while maintaining a business and a farm.
With the strangeness of quarantine, I really wanted to ensure each of the kiddos felt extra special this year on their big day (I also am a huge fan of birthdays and my mantra is bigger IS better on your day). So, we hosted birthday parades (BEST thing to come out of quarantine, by the way), rode real-life unicorns, got new pets, had sleepovers and camp-outs and laser tag wars and had a weeklong double-digit birthday countdown for the boys. It was a FULL month of celebrations and sugar-rushes and fun.
These days may be full and they may be flying by at the speed of light, but they are so very sweet. I don’t take for granted these precious little years. What a joy it is to be hanging on for the ride with this crew!
